Salsa DJ Torqueo

dj_torqueo_gbsexSteve, aka DJ Torqueo, originally started DJ'ing House music in the early 90's with great success, including an appearance on Radio 1's Essential Mix and DJ slots across the UK, including Cream, Ministry Of Sound, Creamfields, Gatecrasher, etc. A few years later, he moved onto DJ'ing funk, breaks and hip-hop in bars and smaller clubs, before becoming involved in the Nu-Skratch project. It was during this period that he did the DVD Production on Turntable Trixters, a documentary about the old UK Hip-Hop group, Hijack, who got signed to Ice-T's Rhyme Syndicate label. The film ended up being shown at the National Film Theatre in London, in 2006.

The musical journey finally ended with Salsa in late 2006, after falling in love with the music and scene, while bringing with him the experience and versatility gained from those other styles of music.

DJ Torqueo plays a good mix of Salsa, Mambo, Cha-Cha-Cha, and more, constantly able to read the floor and adapt accordingly to keep the dancefloor full!

He plays regularly across the UK, guesting at numerous high-profile events, with great feedback from all levels of dancers and a number of international Congress bookings confirmed. Previous gigs include the 1st Scottish Salsa Congress, Scalalatina, The Leeds Weekender and the Belfast Dance Asylum Weekender (where he made his Salsa DJ debut).

Steve is one of the founding members of Salsa-Central.com, a global online Salsa and Latin Music and Dance Magazine, through which he regularly interviews musicians, runs their online radio station, and reviews cd's.
